

Democratizing precision medicine with genomic data in Madrid

Madrid Public Health System (SERMAS) faced the challenge of managing vast volumes of fragmented genomic data while ensuring centralized and secure storage. Furthermore, it needed to integrate this complex information into the electronic health record and ensure interoperability with the National Variant Library (SIGenES).
The Genomcore BIMS platform is implemented as a unified and secure repository. This modular solution orchestrates bioinformatic analyses, structures multimodal data, and automates clinical reporting, ensuring regulatory compliance and integration with other platforms through the use of international standards.
SERMAS will successfully centralize genetic variant management, automate clinical annotation, and connect seamlessly with the national SIGenES node. This optimizes diagnostic workflows, improves biomedical research, and consolidates and democratizes truly personalized medicine in the region.

The project centralizes genetic variant management at the Madrid Center for Genomic Analysis (CMAG), automating its clinical annotation and natively connecting with hospital systems and the national SIGenES node.
The initiative, promoted by the Directorate General for Digital Health of the Ministry of Digitalization in collaboration with the Madrid Health Service (SERMAS), radically transforms genetic diagnosis in the Community through the implementation of an advanced corporate platform at the Madrid Center for Genomic Analysis (CMAG).
Based on Genomcore BIMS technology, this solution addresses the critical need to securely centralize, structure, and interpret the growing deluge of biomedical data.
The system connects primary, secondary, and tertiary analyses, allowing key genetic information to be integrated fluidly and natively with the information systems of Madrid's hospitals. In addition to streamlining the daily work of physicians with annotation and reporting tools, the project guarantees full interoperability with the National Variant Library of the SIGenES program.

These six Madrid hospitals act as genomic research nodes: they preprocess their local data into FASTQ files and send them securely to the CMAG.
This advancement places Madrid at the technological forefront, facilitating rapid and precise diagnoses, driving research, and consolidating preventive and predictive care for all citizens.

The platform deployed in the Community of Madrid operates under the strictest regulatory standards for the processing of high-criticality health information. Genomcore's management system is certified under ISO 27001 (Information Security), ISO 27017 (Security in Cloud Environments), and ISO 27018 (Protection of Personal Data in the Cloud). The infrastructure ensures privacy by design, strictly complying with the European GDPR and operating as the only certified bioinformatics platform in production certified with the High-Category National Security Scheme (ENS). Furthermore, Genomcore follows a framework of continuous improvement and quality aligned with ISO 13485 (Quality management systems for medical devices), ISO 9001, and ISO 25000 standards.
