GenVAL, corporate genomic data platform in the Valencian Community

Transforming precision medicine in Valencian Public Healthcare System

GenVAL, corporate genomic data platform in the Valencian Community logo

Challenge

The Valencian Community needed to unify the genomic testing information generated across various hospitals. The main challenge was to create a standardized, interoperable corporate ecosystem that connected local laboratories and allowed for the secure and efficient sharing of biomedical data.

Solution

Genomcore BIMS is implemented, operating in a hybrid cloud environment. The solution provides unified multimodal storage, automated bioinformatic workflows, and direct integration with hospital systems and the Spanish Government's National Variant Library (SIGenES).

Results

GenVAL is consolidating a unique variant database, improving diagnoses and prioritizing phenotypic information. Furthermore, it facilitated network collaboration for precision oncology and created secure environments for population biomedical research.

Project

Transforming Precision Medicine in Valencian Public Healthcare System

The GenVAL project represents a milestone in the implementation of personalized medicine within the public health system. Designed for the Department of Health, this corporate platform manages the entire genomic data lifecycle end-to-end, covering everything from the clinical request to primary, secondary, and tertiary analysis.

Thanks to a modular and decentralized architecture, medical and bioinformatics professionals from different Valencian hospitals can collaborate using a common source of truth.

Hospitals connected to GenVAL platform by province:

Connected hospitals in the Valencian Community through GenVAL platform — Valencia: 3 hospitals, Castellón: 1 hospital, Alicante: 2 hospitals

Valencia

  • Hospital Universitario y Politécnico de la Fe
  • Hospital Clínico de Valencia
  • Hospital General de Valencia

Castellón

  • Hospital General Universitario de Castelló

Alicante

  • Hospital General Universitario Dr. Balmis (Alicante)
  • Hospital General Universitario de Elche

The platform addresses complex use cases, including pharmacogenetics, precision oncology, centralized genome sequencing, phenotype analysis using HPO ontologies, and automated reannotation with clinical alerts. All of this is done while guaranteeing maximum interoperability with hospital information systems and the national SIGenES framework.

Ultimately, GenVAL democratizes the use of genomics, driving clinical decisions that are more precise and sustainable, and always focused on improving comprehensive patient care.

GenVAL converts genetic results into clinical practice: it allows for the standardization of circuits, as well as genetic and data analysis, reinforcing the quality and traceability of diagnosis.
