Genomcore takes SiGenES to HIMSS Europe 2026: a reference model for Europe

Scaling genomic data: from a hospital to a nation
On May 19th, Miquel Bru, Cofounder and CBDO of Genomcore, led the workshop "SiGenES: How to scale genomic data: from a hospital to a National Variant Library", a 60-minute session designed to show how national-scale genomic data integration, made real in Spain through the BIMS platform, can become the reference standard for any European health system.
SiGenES, developed under Spain's Digital Health Strategy and driven by the Ministry of Health, is the first national genomic variant library in the country, connecting all autonomous communities within a shared, standardized, and clinically oriented infrastructure.
The session brought together the leaders who made it possible:

- José María Veganzones, Deputy Director General of Innovation and Care Solutions, SERMAS
- Xavier Solé, Senior Bioinformatics Manager, Hospital Clínic de Barcelona
Their combined perspective, local, regional, and national, gave attendees a complete picture of what it takes to move genomic data from a single hospital workflow to a fully connected national system. The conclusion was clear: Europe is ready to take that same step.
System readiness: the real barrier to precision medicine
On May 20th, Miquel Bru joined the European Projects Workshop on System Readiness, part of the Intelligence Stage program, alongside European health policy experts. The session addressed a question that Genomcore knows from direct experience: why do technically solid solutions still fail to scale within real health systems?
The answer, as SiGenES demonstrates, lies not only in the technology itself, but in whether the system around it is prepared to receive it: in terms of governance, interoperability, and institutional alignment. A challenge that Spain has already overcome, and that Genomcore is now positioned to help the rest of Europe address.
