Girostudi, a pioneering cohort study in Europe

The project redefines the study of evidence-based public health, creating one of Europe's first digital cohorts through the synergy of technology, citizen science, and precision medicine for 10 years.

Challenge

To establish a robust technological solution for creating and managing a population cohort of 4,000 individuals over a 10-year period. The challenge was to ensure continuous participation, optimize the collection of social, environmental, and health data via digital channels, and guarantee efficient long-term management.

Solution

A digital platform that centralises participant management and all their data into a single repository. By integrating a CRM and a mobile App for communication, the solution facilitates efficient and scalable cohort follow-up, enhances the user experience, and reduces operational costs.

Results

Established as a pioneering digital cohort in Europe, Girostudi will generate knowledge for evidence-based public health, focusing on inequalities and rural settings, and incorporates the innovative methodology of citizen science for health research.

A unique public health innovation project

The Girostudi project by the Dipsalut Observatory is a pioneering initiative to understand the social, environmental, and health factors that determine the well-being of the Girona population. It is based on a digital and longitudinal cohort of 4,000 people aged between 16 and 79, with a planned 10-year follow-up.

To meet this challenge, Dipsalut entrusted Genomcore’s technology to develop a digital platform, which serves as the heart of the project. This solution not only facilitates the collection of user information via questionnaires through a mobile App, enhancing participation and data quality, but also incorporates a powerful CRM to optimally manage all interaction with participants, from initial communication to continuous follow-up, thanks to Genomcore BIMS.

The system ensures high efficiency and drastically reduces the need for in-person or telephone interviews, thus guaranteeing the study's long-term viability and improving the user experience.
